Description
This is an Onsen near Lake Akan. The local area used to be a large Ainu settlement, and in addition to souvenir shops and restaurants, there are traditional Ainu instrumental performances and dances held here, with a traditional Ainu musical instrument known as the "Mukkuri".

Lake Mashu
This is a caldera lake in Akan Mashu National Park. It is known as the second most transparent lake in the world, after Baikal lake. With a depth of 211m, very little light other than blue light is reflected, creating a beautiful deep blue effect, giving it the name of "Mashu blue" in Japan.
Kushiro Marsh
Situated in Kushiro Plain, this is Japan's largest marshland at 18,290 hectares. It is famous as a habitation for cranes, a special natural treasure of Japan. Cranes breed in various parts of the eastern area including Kushiro Wetland in the summer, and return to Kushiro Marshland in the winter.
Tokachigawa Onsen
This is an onsen along the Tokachi River. The area is famous for onsen with a large variety of plant life. The area was historically treasured by the Ainu people as a place of healing. During December to mid March, white swans migrate to this river area. This area is also ideal for outdoor activities.
